Correspondence supplied by David Bannear (dated 02-04-1971) states:
District Foresters at Forrest and Macedon have been asked to request you to arrange for inspections of the wooden towers at Cobaw and Mt. Sabine.
It is not anticipated they could or would be replaced in 1971 / 1972.

This facility has been unused for many years and is quite dilapidated. (see 2009 photos)

Mt Sabine, taken 5th March 1959. Classic FCV wooden construction.
Photo and info supplied by Gregor Wallace via Peter McHugh in January 2021
We're still researching the sequence of towers. The above photo of 1959 shows the framework being in 4 sections while the 1966? photo shows the old one in 3 sections and the new one in 4.
We've been in contact with Gregor Wallace and he has confirmed the date of his photo as 5th March 1959. "The date on the transparency cardboard mount is 5-3-'59. It was an excursion trip to the Otways. The figure with glasses is Rod Incoll". Gregor also notified us that Jim Speirs has passed away so we can't ask him.
If you can shed any light on this, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks.
