In papers obtained from the Historical Section of the NRE it states:
Mt. Hotham fire tower: re-located from SEC Kiewa in 1961

The cabin had the roof replaced in 2000

The Lookout was severely damaged by a wind storm in November 2005. A temporary cabin (ex Mt. Taylor near Bairnsdale) was used until the current tower was constructed during the 2006 / 2007 season.

The above photos were supplied by Jim Browning (ex FLO Mt. Stanley). The first 2 were taken on Jim's last day as a ranger on Mt. Hotham whilst having a farewell drink with the FLO at the time Dave Whigens.

Photos and info supplied by Greg O'Donohue, the current (2026) FLO at Mt. Hotham. The 1st one is winter 2024, the 2nd one is Jyly 2025, the 3rd one is late spring 2025 and the last 4 were taken early May 2026. The 4th and 5th photos are looking N - NW towards Feathertop and Mt. Buffalo. The 6th photo is also looking North and shows the summit cairn and the 7th photo is looking SW and shows the enclosed ladder.
