"I managed a trip out to the Tooloom Fire Tower on the weekend. It requires a 5km drive from the nearest sealed road - 4WD would be preferable though a 2WD could make it in dry weather. There's a locked gate to prevent vehicle access 1km from the tower. I parked here and walked up some steep terrain - first through dry eucalypt forest, which quickly turns into a cool rainforest environment, full of strangler figs and giant stinging trees. As you make your way to the top of the hill it's all cleared and there's a trig point and comms tower sharing the peak with the fire tower. It's a fantastic little walk. There are good views down into the Kyogle area in NSW, and north up into the Scenic Rim area of QLD."
