The previous, wooden, tower burnt down in 1965. Details still unknown.
For years, this tower was only used when there was a going fire in the area or on high fire danger days,
but over the last few years, it has been fully active again.
There used to be a live-in cabin on site, but it hasn't been used since the late seventies.
It was moved in 1996 approx.

Mt. Moornapa had it's cabin replaced in 2016
