Below is an extract from the Fire Tower chapter of a book, Forestry Tales, that was written by Michael H. Bleby OAM. It is used with permission, thanks Michael.
Although its use had discontinued before my involvement, there was a tower in earlier use at Caroline Forest. The first recorded observation tower in the Region and in SA (1918) was in fact located at Caroline Forest to the SE of Mt Gambier.
