This tower replaced a 17m four-leg timber tower (Gallangowan No. 1) on the same site. The old tower can be seen in the backgound of some thumbnail photos.
The tower was opened by the then Queensland Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

Current Status: Decommissioned and dismantled. Remains of observation deck and cabin
located in the yard of the Forestry Office Gallangowan State Forest.
