The Canberra Tims of July 8th 1972 reported: "The Department of the Interior has arranged a $2,076 contract for a fibreglass fire tower lookout cabin to be placed on Mount Tennent, near Tharwa. The cabin will be erected on a 20ft stand on top of the 4,544ft mountain and will provide a good view of the Canberra plain. A spokesman for the department said yesterday the cabin would take only a few days to install instead of several weeks as with more conventional lookout cabins which have been used in the ACT in the past. The new fibreglass cabin is the same as those used by the NSW Forestry Commission. It is expected to be installed before the summer."
